Report Date: November 4, 2004
The fat lady hasn't begun to sing yet, so the fishing remains pretty good on
MVY. Lots of Blues at the two Chops ( East and West ) and scattered elsewhere
around the island, including inside Edgartown Great Pond. Speaking of which,
still plenty of Shad and Bass to 40 " or so : 20 lb average at this length.
The Great Pond opening remains closed, so these fish are trapped. Anyone ever
fish in a hatchery before ? Stripers on the beach at the Katama right fork and
Metcalf's. Plenty of bait including squid around the harbors and beaches. Oak
Bluffs is loaded at the SSA dock as well as the harbor. The Bass are right chowing
down before the long trip south. No reports of oversized fish, but lots of activity
on decent fish as noted above.
All in all, good fishing for this time of the year. Come on down--no crowds
on the beach and no lines at the stores; you can even get on about any ferry
on a standby basis [ miracle of miracles] !!
