Trade Shows 06-Mar-2011

Report Date: Trade Shows 06-Mar-2011

Finally winter is winding down here in the Northeast and we’re all getting a bad case of cabin fever. The wholesale trade shows have ended but the fun news is that the retail or general public shows have started. We haven’t participated in shows outside of New England yet—maybe next year we can get to New York or New Jersey. However, for those of you who care to there are two great saltwater surf fishing events coming up.

The first of these is next weekend- The New England Saltwater Fishing Show held at the Convention Center in downtown Providence, RI. Hours are 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday the 11 th, 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Saturday and 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sunday the 13 th. For more info go to www.nesaltwatershow.com. Having participated for several years now, we can testify as to how great the show is {only one Vegimatic booth]. It’s a surfcasters heaven with virtually all of your major and minor manufacturers displaying their wares with loads of tackle and accessories on sale at discount pricing.

We’ll be there with a double booth this year. As always we’ll be selling our factory blems at huge discounts. We’ll also have loads of first quality packaged lures at show special pricing of two for $10.00 for the standard colors. We’ll also have colors that you won’t normally find as they are made for other markets around the world. Examples are the yellow/red color made for the Peacock Bass market in Central and South America in both the 1 ¾ oz Bounder and 2 ¼ oz Ranger sizes.

In addition in our booth, we’ll have a display of the Norton Point breach. The Trustees of Reservations has provided historical charts and photos showing the evolvement of the breach from a 1600’s chart to a 1850’s coastal chart to a 1920 era chart to actual aerial photos starting in the late 40’s at around five year intervals until last year. In addition, we’ve taken pictures of the new breach near the windmill house on Cape Poge which cuts off access to the “gut”. We’ve also a copy of a little known report from NOAA which documents the sea level rise on the east coast of north America due to pressure level patterns around the Azores and Iceland. Would you believe that in 2009 the average sea level around Baltimore was around 1 ½ to 2 feet above normal for a good part of the summer? It was slightly less than that locally around the Islands. And some people are worried about a couple of inch rise in the next fifty years [maybe]. Get real!

Sunday is family day—no charge for the youngsters and wife.

Another good event later in the month is the Mass Striped Bass Show in Plymouth, Mass. This long running show will be on Sat/Sun 26 and 27 March at the South Shore Expo center which is accessed from exit # 5 from Rte # 3 in Plymouth. Go West a short distance; street is on the left. We’ll be there and will be offering the same specials as mentioned above as well as the displays. Although this event is somewhat smaller than the Providence one, it is still a great way to get rid of cabin fever! Plenty of folks do both shows.
