Cape Cod and the Island 14-Jun 2011

Report Date: Cape Cod and the Island 14-Jun 2011

The NE wind that persists more than we like recently has changed the fishing somewhat. Ten days ago it put a real damper on what had been some of the best bluefish runs we’ve seen in years.

The Blues are back, but not quite so numerous or as large with 3 to 5 lb fish the norm now. We’re having NE strong breezes again but the promised June Striper fishing is happening. We’re getting reports from all around the Island of good Bass fishing. Pick your favorite spot—it’s probably producing.

The good news on top of that is the cooling from the NE should extend this run of fish. Also, lots of bait in most locations. Some noted hot spots include: Menemsha channel, East Beach [ walk over from the Dyke Bridge parking-bird closures to driving all the way to Wasque], Norton Point breach [Chappy side], the Gut at the end of the dropping tide, etc.

As usual, we caution everyone to be mindful of the nesting bird restrictions. The chicks will be fledged before you know it and we’ll have unlimited beach access back.
