Cape and Islands 27-May 2011

Report Date: Cape and Islands 27-May 2011

The fishing continues to be the best in years for Bluefish. The Blues are showing up in consistent patterns, in large numbers and more often than not in large [15 lb class] sizes. Wasque is hot and has been for ten days now.

The dropping [west] tide is best and if you want the larger fish, get there right after the turn from the flood tide. The end of the drop is mostly smaller—3 to 5 lb Blues. Don’t forget to go around the corner to Leland’s as the tide drops—plenty of fish there as well as other locations along East Beach.

Be respectful of the nesting birds on the beach and obey the 5 MPH speed limit in the nesting areas. Stripers seem to be plentiful at Menemsha and other places at that end of the island. The channel there has been packed with fish [and fishermen]. Quick summary—the fishing is fantastic—it’s hard not to do well these days and nights!
