Cape Cod and Islands 18-Jun-2010

Report Date: Cape Cod and Islands 18-Jun-2010

Blues at Wasque off and on all day, more numerous on the dropping [west] tide. Occasional 5 lb plus fish but most are cocktail sized. Those can be a gourmet’s delight—I just now smoked three trays of them for weekend guests—they came out delicious! The smaller sized fish result in a more consistent thickness so you end up with more uniform smoking [or cooking]. The night fishery for Stripers remains good at the traditional spots-East Beach, Lobsterville and the North Shore. From the boats, Fluke and Sea Bass are good; Scup are everywhere. Come on down for a Father’s Day fishing treat!

Red Top reports a 49 lb Striper from the Canal earlier in the week. Monday was red hot for Bass with the good tides; things have slowed down a little bit since then. Lots of mixed bait, Tinker Mackerel are in strong. The lure of choice has been the Sebile series. There are a few blues in the Ditch, more in Buzzards Bay. Scup and Sea Bass has slowed somewhat after the spawn out there.

Jeff at Powderhorn in Hyannis reports good fishing at Race Point. For the boating enthusiasts, Billingsgate is producing as well as for those at the 100 ft depth off Nauset chasing Tuna and picking up big Stripers on Squid bars. Tuna around the SW corner of Stellwagen and nearby ledges. Fluke picking up at Lucas Shoal; hit or miss in Nantucket Sound off Hyannis for Stripers.

Breachway B & T in Charlestown, RI reports red hot Fluke fishing with a 7.02 weigh-in so far on their weekly contest. Small Bass and Blues in the Breachway, bigger Bass on the reefs and PT Judith.

All in all, nice weather in the forecast and pretty decent fishing everywhere. Tight lines!!
